“You can’t change what’s going on around you; until you start changing what’s going on within you.”
‘Change’ is the order of the day. Change takes place periodically in many spheres of life, and yoga is not an exception.
Previous generations of people resorted to yoga, pranayama and other such exercises to keep their mind and body fit. But, today’s youth tend not to take conventional yoga seriously, so it became inevitable for yoga to acquire a touch of modernity. That’s how anti-gravity yoga or swing yoga came into existence.
So what is Aerial or Anti-Gravity yoga?
While yoga predominantly is of Indian origin, anti-gravity yoga, however, is propounded by the Americans. It is said to have originated in New York in 1991.
Aerial or anti-gravity yoga requires a special kind of hammock which can support up to 300 kgs of weight, and the rig consists of support chains, a strap, a silk hammock which serves like a swing or soft trapeze, supporting the body forwarding and backward bending.
This workout is a combination of several exercise styles. The beauty of this workout is that anyone can do it. In this, one can do different physical exercises by swinging in mid air and still maintain body balance.
This yoga came to India two years ago and became quite famous in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Baroda, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
