The City of Shalem has some gorgeous landmarks that you cannot miss

Synopsis

One of the holiest cities in the world - Jerusalem -  has plenty of attractions  Check out these 5 must-dos

1. The Old City:

What is a trip to the holiest cities in the world, and not undertake a historic tour? The Old City is divided into 4 quarters, each section dedicated to the different faiths viz: The Jewish Quarter; the Muslim Quarter, The Christian Quarter and the Armenian quarter.   One can enter this through any one of the 7 gates that surround the Walled City. The Wailing Wall (Jews), the Dome of the Rock (Muslims) and the Church of the Sepulcher (Christians) are all within walking distance of each other.  Each quarter is uniquely distinct from the other.

 Machane Yehuda:

Commonly referred to as “The Shuk”, this marketplace is home to fresh produce, meat, sweets and cheese among others including textiles. Besides this, there are restaurants and eating places here. Marketplace tours are also conducted here.

3. Wohl Rose Park and Teddy Park:

The public gardens are a sight to behold. The Wohl Rose Park is famed for its rose gardens. It was once used for government ceremonies, but post renovation, it’s open to the public and one can soak in the spectacular views thanks to its location (at the Israeli Supreme Court). Similarly, the Teddy Park is home to the only light and sound show that happens every day.

4. Yah Veshem: This is a memorial dedicated to the Holocaust victims. Besides this, there is also a Hall of Remembrance where the ashes are buried and an eternal flame that burns in memory of those who suffered including men, women and children.

5. Moses Montefiore Windmill:

One of the most well-known landmarks in Jerusalem, after the Old City, cannot be missed. It was built in 1857. It was built by an Anglo-Jewish philanthropist, Moses Montefiore to employ those who were poor and unemployed in his community.
