Kolkata: The tendency of passengers to travel in the evening metro is increasing. Analyzing the statistics for a week, it has been seen that the trend of e-pass booking is highest between six and seven in the evening. About 5,000 e-passes were booked for September 18.
Authorities have started thinking about running the metro at a time interval of eight minutes. A review-meeting was held about last week's service in the presence of the general manager at the Metro building on September 21. Indications were made that there is an increase in the crowd of passengers in the evening metro.

On the other hand, the number of passengers in the metro increased slightly on September 21 after the resumption of services. The North-South Metro had 43,700 passengers on Monday.
In the meeting, an increase in the number of metros to handle the situation was discussed. In this context, General Manager Manoj Joshi said, “Look into the matter of reducing the distance between the two trains from 9 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 6 pm.”

According to Metro sources, the metros stop for a longer period of time at every station. Therefore, the duration is also increasing. As a result, more racks have to be used.
Under the new plan, an additional three pairs of metros will run on the up and down lines. Metro chief public relations officer Indrani Bandyopadhyay said, “There has been discussion of making the service more comfortable. What needs to be done keeping in mind the needs of the passengers are being scrutinized.”
