Since last season, Messi has contemplated leaving the club, owing to the lack of consistent success and poor management. While his current contract has come to an end, the club is still trying to negotiate a new deal by offering him a mega-contract that could compel him to stay at Camp Nou for life.

Meanwhile, the new club president, Joan Laporta, has also taken up the matter with utmost seriousness. Recently, he held a press conference with the reporters, where he gave the latest update on Messi’s future with Barca.

“Contract talks are going well, but they’re not done yet. We’re working hard to make a good proposal within our means, and we hope he will accept it. Our relationship is excellent. Messi loves Barca,” said Laporta.

“I am sure he deserves more and could get more elsewhere. I am convinced he appreciates the effort we’re making and I think he’s excited about our sporting project. I have always said it’s not a money issue with Leo; it’s about winning everything. I am moderately optimistic,” Laporta added.

Messi has been linked to numerous top clubs, with English champion Manchester City and French giants Paris Saint-Germain notably in the fray. However, Laporta has asserted that Messi is likely to stay since the club is in his hands, which the Argentine had always wanted, better management and smooth running.

“He wants to be comfortable, he has some years left, and he wants to enjoy them. What has changed? Now, I am President and I think Leo likes that,” he added.NOTE: Asianet News humbly requests everyone to wear masks, sanitise, maintain social distancing and get vaccinated as soon as eligible.
