Consequently, the Brazilian took to his Instagram handle, congratulating the modern-day GOAT for the same, besides stating that he admired him. "When your heart overflows with love, it is difficult to change your path. Like you, I know what it's like to love wearing the same shirt every day. Like you, I know that there is nothing better than the place we feel at home. Congratulations on your historic record, Lionel. But, above all, congratulations on your beautiful career at Barcelona. Stories like ours, of loving the same club for so long, unfortunately, will be increasingly rare in football. I admire you very much, @leomessi," he wrote on his post.

Pele has played for Santos throughout his club career, as he had achieved the feat in just 656 matches. However, for Messi, it came a little late, as he has managed to do so in 748 games. Nonetheless, judging by the level of competition in European football, Messi's feat is highly commendable and justified.

Messi has won numerous football recognitions, besides being a record six-time Ballon d'Or winner, while he is continually being challenged by Portuguese sensation, Cristiano Ronaldo, who holds five. As for Pele, he has won the Ballon d'Or honour just once.
