Iga Swiatek won her maiden Grand Slam title, which happens to be on the clay court. She hails from Poland and is aged 19. She was ranked 54th prior to the French Open, as the win is set to push her further up. This also happened to be her maiden career title.

As 2020 continues to be uncertain, the world of tennis is once again into a shock. Unseeded Iga Swiatek from Poland has won the 2020 French Open in Paris on Saturday, as she beat USA's Sofia Kenin, who was seeded fourth in the tournament.

With this win, she happens to be the first woman from Poland to win the title, besides being only the second woman from the nation. She is also the second player, after Belgium's Justin Henin in 2007, to win the title without dropping a set throughout the tournament.

As for the match, it was a thriller in the opening set, with both players fighting it out neck-on-neck. However, Swiatek managed to break her once, which was enough for her to take the lead 6-4. The second set had a contrasting difference, as Swiatek broke Kenin twice in a shocking manner to outplay her and win it 6-1.

As Swiatek became the lowest-ranked player to win the French Open and the youngest since Monica Seles in 1992, she expressed her happiness for the same. “I'm so happy. I'm so happy my family was here finally. It was overwhelming for me," she said following her win.

"Two years ago, I won a junior Grand Slam and now, I'm here. It feels like such a short time. I'm just overwhelmed. Maybe, it just had to be like that, another underdog had to win a Grand Slam. In women's tennis right now it's crazy," she added.
