Liverpool are the defending champions of the Premier League, having won it last season, after a span of 30 years. This is their opening loss of the season, having won their previous three matches. Currently, they are placed in the fifth spot of the table.

In what was a shocking day in the Premier League, the second-consecutive match of Sunday evening saw another five-goal margin win, as Aston Villa agitated defending champions, Liverpool. In what was the latter's opening loss of the season, it came on a surprise note, as they were hammed 7-2 away, at Villa Park.
