Nayanthara and Prabhu Deva were about to tie the knot, but due to several personal issues the duo had to put an end to their relationship

In a throwback interview, Nayanthara recently opened up about her break-up with Prabhu Deva. We all know, Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara's love story is one of the most controversial topics in the south film industry.

There was a time when Prabhu Deva was madly-in-love with a much younger Nayanthara, who reciprocated his feelings.

However, Nayanthara and Prabhu's relationship didn't last for too long. The duo was dating for almost three-and-a-half-years. In June 2009, there were rumours that Nayanthara and Prabhu Deva might tie the knot. But they couldn't make their relationship official due to several personal reasons.

In an interview with TOI, Nayanthara had spoken about the problem they faced, "When I am in a relationship, I give it my 100 per cent. But then if it doesn't work, you cannot help it. You cannot move ahead with something which isn't working."

She added, "I don't know whether it's destiny or whatever it just didn't work. We were probably not meant to be together. When you have to go away from someone you love or vice-versa, whatever the reason, it really shatters your life. But how you deal with it is important. I was in a relationship for three and a half years so I still need to get over it completely. It'll take a lot of time."

Prabhu was already married to Ramlath in 1995. Ramlath later changed her name to Latha because she was a Muslim, and to marry Prabhu she converted to Hindu.

In an interview with Filmibeat, angry Latha was seen defending her husband Prabhu and blaming Nayan for everything, "Prabhu Deva is a sincere and kind husband, who has taken care of us for the past 15 years. Very recently he purchased a house for us. But now everything has changed. His present behaviour is a big shock to me and Deva's family too. Our family laws never allows a married person to marry other woman."
