Jahnvi Kapoor, who was last seen in horror-comedy Roohi, garnered praises for her possessed character. Many felt that a glimpse of Sridevi could be seen in the way she aced that character. Janhvi Kapoor, in an interview, spoke about playing polar opposite roles in Roohi just like her mother did in Chaalbaaz.

She said in an interview with Hindustan Times, there was no reference point for Afza's character, and no one can match the amount of effort her mother had put in the movie. "I would honestly always had a hard time watching that movie because they were very mean to her in the film. As a kid, I was very traumatised every time I tried to watch that film."

However, she did watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose to help her work on Afza. She said, "I watched a few such movies, so I get an idea as to how to ace a possessed character," Janhvi added.
