Rishabh Pant wins ICC Men’s Player of the Month award

Rishabh Pant has been producing some fine performances in the longest format of late. In Australia, he finished as India’s highest run-scorer in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, as India won the series 2-1 and retained the title. ICC has recognised him for his achievement.

In what could be considered a great piece of news for India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman and fans, Rishabh Pant has won the inaugural ICC Men’s Player of the Month award. The International Cricket Council announced the winner on Monday, based on votes from fans.

Pant had a glorious outing in Australia last month, during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he finished as the highest run-scorer for the side. In January, he scored 245 runs in four innings, at a brilliant average of 81.66, with the highest score of 97.

Besides his bat, Pant also contributed with the gloves, inflicting four dismissals. He was also adjudged the Man of the Match during the final Test in Brisbane.

Pant is currently having a great time against England in the first Test, in Chennai, where he scored 91 in the first innings. He has also been involved in three dismissals, in the game.

Meanwhile, Shabnim Ismail has won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award. The South African claimed seven wickets in three One-Day Internationals at an average of 17.28, besides claiming seven in the same number of Twenty20 Internationals and has an economy of 4.00.

It is the first time ICC has introduced the award, starting this year. The winner is announced based on votes from fans worldwide, who vote the players by judging their performance for the month.
