- He has so far scored the fourth-most runs in a home Test series as captain (501), while the record lays with Graham Gooch (752) in 1990.
- He has scored the joint second-most Test century for England (23) along with Kevin Pietersen, while the record is with Cook (33).
- With his century, England has had the joint second-most Test centurions this year - alongside Bangladesh after Sri Lanka (8).
- He has become the sixth to score 500-plus in a Test series against India after Ponting, Sobers, Everton Weekes, Younis Khan and Zaheer Abbas.
India scripts some unwanteds
India has so far given away a lead of 345 runs. Consequently:
- It is the highest first innings lead conceded under Kohli's leadership, with the previous most being 289 against the same side in 2018 at Lord's.
- It was the first time since 2014 that India has conceded a lead of 300-plus.

India decided to bat first and got bundled out for 78 on Day 1 itself, with James Anderson and Craig Overton scalping three-for each. On the other hand, England has scored 423/8, thanks to another classy knock of 121 from Root, thus leading by 345.
