Virat Kohli is playing IPL 2021 with RCB, while it would be his last as its skipper. Meanwhile, there are some favourite candidates to replace him, as we analyse five of them.

Virat Kohli has decided to step down from the captaincy role of Royal Challengers Bangalore, as Indian Premier League 2021 would be his last appearance as the skipper. The news broke on Sunday night, just three days after he had decided to relinquish Team India's Twenty20 International captaincy following the ICC World T20 2021 in November.

Meanwhile, RCB's hunt for a new skipper would begin soon. Although there are a few favourites in the current side to replace him, with the mega auction coming up next year, RCB would identify some potential candidates as we analyse five of the possible ones.

AB de Villiers
Undoubtedly, the first name that would come to mind is the South African legend. De Villiers has been playing for the side since 2011. And, having been associated for the side for more than a decade, he knows the team inside out. Consequently, there cannot be a better option than him, while his gameplay qualities are exceptional and need no analysis.

Glenn Maxwell
The all-rounder was roped in this season itself and has a relatively lesser idea about the side. However, he has tons of experience with him and knows quite a lot about captaincy. Not sure if he would be interested in the role, but he can certainly be a great option, while his all-round skills are applaudable.

David Warner
The Australian opener had been the skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad for quite a few seasons, while he also led the side to the title glory in 2016. However, his leadership qualities have been on a downward spiral since last season. After a dreadful season in IPL 2021, he has been stripped of the role and playing XI spot. He is unlikely to be retained and could be put up for auction, where RCB can pounce upon him, as an experienced skipper could come in handy for the side.

Devdutt Padikkal
The 21-year-old is starting to rise the ranks among batters and has been a revelation for the side of late. Being talented enough, he can be handed the leadership duties of RCB, most importantly, to be groomed as a future captain for Team India. Moreover, being a local lad and aware of the conditions in Bengaluru, he makes a great choice and option for the side.

Aaron Finch
He happens to be a former RCB player and has gone unsold this season. However, he remains one of the best players in the format, and most importantly, he is doing a great job in leading the Australian side in the format. With Kohli moving away from the role, Finch can fill in his boots perfectly.
