David Warner is an Australian opening batsman who has been playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League since IPL 2014 and has been captaining since IPL 2019. Kane Williamson has been playing for SRH since IPL 2015 and had led the side in IPL 2018.

Former Indian Premier League champion Sunrisers Hyderabad has made a leadership change for IPL 2021. New Zealand's Kane Williamson has replaced Australian David Warner.

Williamson's appointment comes a day after SRH suffered a defeat to fellow former champion Chennai Super Kings. Following the loss, Warner took full responsibility for the side's failure, as SRH slumped to the bottom of the points table.

"I take full responsibility. The way that I batted was obviously very slow. I was hitting a lot of fielders and very, very frustrated... Look, I take full responsibility from a batting point of view. I felt Manish coming back into the team; the way that he batted was exceptional. And obviously, Kane and Kedar towards the back end there, they put some boundaries away and got us to a respectable total. I felt that we were probably just below par from where we were," he had told post defeat to CSK.

Besides, Warner had claimed earlier that the selectors made a harsh call by dropping Manish Pandey against Delhi Capitals, which SRH lost in the Super Over. Furthermore, Warner's batting has also taken a fall in the past few matches.

"SunRisers Hyderabad would like to announce that Kane Williamson will be taking over the captaincy for tomorrow's match and for the remainder of IPL 2021. The team management has also made the decision that they will be changing their overseas combination for tomorrow's match against Rajasthan Royals," said SRH in a release."This decision has not come lightly as the management respects the enormous impact David Warner has had for the franchise over a number of years. As we face the remainder of the season we are sure David will continue to help us strive for success both on and off the field," it added. SRH plays its next game on Sunday against seventh-placed former champion Rajasthan Royals.NOTE: Asianet News humbly requests everyone to wear masks, sanitise, maintain social distancing and get vaccinated as soon as eligible.
