IPL 2020: RR skipper Steve Smith fined Rs 12 lakh for slow-over rate

Steve Smith has been fined Rs 12 lakhs for slow-over rate during Rajasthan Royals (RR) match against Mumbai Indians (RR). RR succumbed to a 57-run defeat to MI in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. RR are currently down to the seventh spot in the IPL table.

It was truly not the day for Rajasthan Royals (RR). From uneconomical bowlers to fluked batting performance, from losing the match to the captain being fined for slow over-rate, it was a poor day on the field for the Rajasthan players.

This is the third incident in this IPL season when the captain has been fined for the slow over-rate. Virat Kohli (RCB skipper), Shreyas Iyer (DC skipper), and now, it is Steve Smith (RR skipper), who has been added to this list. This is the first such offense for the Royals this season.

"As it was his team's first offence of the season, under the IPL's Code of Conduct ,relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh," stated an IPL media release.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi. They could not chase the target of 194 and their side swept for 136 in 18.1 overs, thus losing by 57 runs.

Currently, they stand seventh in the points table. They will lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) on October 9.
