IPL 2020: MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, other top players likely to undergo dope tests in UAE

New Delhi: The stage is set for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) to be played in the UAE. During the cash-rich Twenty20 tournament, top cricketers including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma are likely to undergo dope test, according to a media report on Tuesday (August 25). Here are the details.

IPL 2020’s top players will be tested “in competition” by India’s National Anti Doping Agency (NADA).

According to The Times of India, 50 samples of cricketers will be collected in the UAE.

NADA director general, Navin Agarwal, told the newspaper that its dope control officers (DCOs) have been directed to perform the 'in competition' testing only at the playing venues.

The 'out-of-competition' testing will strictly be carried out at the training sites. A total of 50 samples of cricketers will be collected during the tournament, the report said.

Three teams will travel to the UAE in batches. “The first batch will leave in the first week of September. Before their departure, all team members will be tested for Covid-19. Upon their arrival in the UAE, they will be tested again,” Agarwal said.
