IPL 2020: KL Rahul feels KXIP still have room for improvement in an area

KL Rahul is leading Kings XI Punjab for the first time, while Indian Premier League 2020 happens to be his first stint as the captain. KXIP are currently placed in the fifth spot, having won four games and lost six from 10. The side is still in the hunt for its maiden IPL title.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were off to a horrific start in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL), as they were at the bottom of the table for a considerable period of time. However, some fine performances of late have allowed the KL Rahul-led side to escalate up, to the fifth spot.

Although the beginning to Rahul's captaincy stint in the IPL might not have been the ideal one, he did not let the role affect his batting, as he is currently the highest run-scorer in the tournament. While Rahul's team is slowly upping its ante, the skipper has pointed out an area where they can still make some adjustments.

“My heart keeps reaching new limits every game, but yeah, it is nice to finish it in the 19th over for once. I did wonder, I won’t lie, especially when you are playing with six batsmen and an all-rounder,” Rahul had said during the post-match presentation, following their win over Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday.

“It is something every team talks about: the set batsman has to finish off the game. One of the top four does that. We have to correct that,” he added.

KXIP came up with a phenomenal bowling performance to restrict DC to a par total, despite Shikhar Dhawan's centurion knock, as they chased it down with ease. Meanwhile, Rahul was all praise for Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who bounced back with the bat, following a rough patch initially.

“Glenn is a great team man. He has been batting well in the nets. It was important to back him. It was good to see him get time in the middle. Hopefully, he carries this good work into the coming games,” asserted Rahul.

With the four more games to go, KXIP would be looking to continue with their current winning momentum, to make it to the playoffs. They are one of the three sides to have never won the title to date. They take on former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next game on Saturday, who happen to be in the seventh spot.
