IPL 2020: DRS for wide and no-balls? Here's what Virat Kohli has to say

The umpiring standard in the Indian Premier League has been a matter of concern for the past couple of seasons. As of now, the Decision Review System is only in place for leg-before wicket and caught-behind dismissals. The teams only get a review per innings in T20s.

Technology has certainly helped in making any sport clean, and cricket is no stranger to it. However, the limited use of it has always been a topic of debate. Meanwhile, it is being contemplated if its use can be further expanded, especially on umpire's decision-making front.

As of now, the Umpire Decision Review System (DRS) is only limited to dismissals for Leg-Before Wicket (LBW) and caught-behind. However, there have been calls made if the same can be done for wide deliveries and no-balls.

The incident came into the limelight on Tuesday night when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). As Shardul Thakur had bowled a wide in the 18th over of the chase, umpire Paul Reiffel was about to declare it so, before pulling off after Dhoni was seen expressing his frustration at the umpire.

Speaking on the same, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli said, "I am going to speak as a captain. As a captain, I would like to have the ability to review a wide, which could be a wrong call, or a waist-high full-toss, which could be a wrong call."

"We have seen this historically, how big these things can be in such a high-profile tournament like IPL and in general T20 cricket. It is a fast-paced game and you can miss a small margin, and we have all seen this is a big factor. If you lose the game by a run and you are not able to review that wide, it could make a massive difference in someone's campaign," added Kohli.

Agreeing with Kohli, Kings XI Punjab skipper, KL Rahul, said, "If that rule comes in, it is very good. You can give a team two reviews and say you can use it for whatever."

Meanwhile, Rahul also suggested a change in rule in terms of hitting a six. "If someone hits a six over 100 metres, it should be given more runs. I will ask my bowlers about this," he opined.
