India vs England 2020-21, 4th Test: Jofra Archer suffers elbow injury, Ben Stokes has upset stomach

England continues to fumble against India for the Anthony de Mello Trophy in the ongoing four-Test series. While England is looking to win the final game and draw the series, it is off to a rattled start in the first innings in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the side also has a couple of injury concerns.

Visitor England has not had the best of starts against host India on Day 1 of the fourth and final Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday. While it has been skittled for 205, injury troubles have made it worse for the side.

A scoreline too far for EnglandIn an interesting observation, England has failed to score more than 178 in five of its previous seven Test innings across territories. They could manage 193 in one of their innings during the last game here, which happens to be the fourth-lowest during a Test, having been bowled out in both innings.

Earlier, during the toss, English skipper Joe Root confirmed that pacer Jofra Archer was missing out and had been replaced by spinner Daniel Lawrence. Later, England and Wales Cricket Board sent out a statement, confirming that he had suffered an injury on his right elbow.

Archer had suffered the injury during the second Test in Chennai. Although he managed to play the third with injections, the situation hasn't improved. His status for the upcoming limited-overs leg and the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals is yet to be clarified.

"Jofra Archer is not playing in this Test match due to his ongoing right elbow issue. The ECB medical team will provide an update in due course," read ECB's statement, reports PTI.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Ben Stokes is also nursing an upset stomach after assistant coach Paul Collingwood and strength and conditioning coach Daz Veness were affected this week. Nonetheless, Stokes still managed to play a decent knock of 55.

"Ben Stokes has had an upset stomach, the same issue that has affected other members of the touring party. It is not expected to keep him off the field," the statement added on Stokes.
