According to an official statement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Bumrah had requested the board for his release, citing personal reasons. Consequently, BCCI has granted his release, besides affirming that no replacement pacer would be roped in for the final Test.

The series happened to be Bumrah’s maiden Test series at home. So far, he has played just a couple of games and has managed to claim four wickets at an average of 32.25, as the spinners have made most of the impact.

As for his replacement for the fourth Test, either Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Siraj could get the nod, alongside all-rounder Hardik Pandya. However, if the team management opts for an extra spinner, chinaman Kuldeep Yadav could be back into the fray.
