Axar absolutely demolished the English batting line-up, with figures of 6/38. On the same note, it was the best figures by an Indian spinner in the day-night Test, and overall, being the second, after Devendra Bishoo's 8/49 against Pakistan in 2016-17.

It was also the second-lowest in India, with the most inferior being 102 in Mumbai, in 1979-80. Also, it is the second-lowest score in the opening innings of a Test in India by a visiting team, with the lowest being 106 by Bangladesh in the 2019 D/N Test.

Ashwin scalped 3/26 in this innings. In the process, he has now bettered Zaheer Khan's record of most wickets across formats and has become the fourth-most wicket-taker in the same. While Ashwin has claimed 598, Zaheer had scalped 597. The record for the same is held by Anil Kumble (953).
