On Monday, it happened during the final session when the last ball of England's 18th over saw Daniel Lawrence sweep it vigorously off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Gill, who was stationed at short-leg, tried to evade, but could not help the ball avoid his forearm.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that Gill has been taken for a 'precautionary scan'. "Shubman Gill sustained a blow on his left forearm while fielding on Day 3 of the 2nd Test. He has been taken for a precautionary scan. The BCCI Medical Team is assessing him. He won't be fielding today," it said in a tweet and on Facebook.
