Delhi Capitals' Ishant Sharma ruled out of IPL 2020 due to injury: Details here

Ishant Sharma has been associated with Delhi Capitals since 2019. He has been playing the Indian Premier League since its inception in 2008. To date, he has played for six sides in the tournament, while he began his career with Kolkata Knight Riders.

In what comes as a major blow to Delhi Capitals (DC), pacer Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) due to an injury. He is reportedly suffering from severe pain in the left rib-cage.

According to a release by DC, it happened during a training session on October 7 in Dubai. Further examinations also say that he has an internal oblique muscle tear.

"Delhi Capitals fast bowler Ishant Sharma experienced an acute episode of left rib cage pain while bowling at a team training session on 7 October 2020 in Dubai. Subsequent investigations revealed that he sustained a left internal oblique muscle tear. This injury will, unfortunately, rule him out of the remainder of the Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020," the release read.

Ishant had also suffered back spasm prior to the start of the tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). So far, Ishant has played just a game this season, against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he could finish with figures of 029.

It is also being reported that DC would seek a replacement player for him. As of now, they have the likes of Lalit Yadav, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma and Tushar Deshpande, who can fill in for him.

Ishant has had an average career in the competition to date. He has claimed 72 wickets in 90 matches at an economy of 8.09, with a moderate average of 36.19. To date, he has represented six different sides in the IPL, having begun his career with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

As for DC, they have been off to a flying start this season. They have played seven matches, winning four and losing just a couple, as they sit on the second spot. The side is still in the hunt for its maiden IPL title win.

Meanwhile, it is also unclear as to how long would Ishant be out of action. As a result, it would be interesting to know if he would recover in time for the upcoming tour of Australia, next month. Furthermore, the selectors are expected to meet this week to pick the squad for the four-Test, three ODI and three T20I series.
