ACC Women's T20 Championship 2022: BCCI retains India squad from England tour for continental clash

The Indian women's squad for the 2022 ACC Women's T20 Championship has been announced by the BCCI. There has been no significant change in it, as the squad from the England tour has been retained.

On Wednesday, no significant changes were made as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member Indian women's squad for the ACC T20 Championship 2022, which will be conducted in Bangladesh between October 1-15. India retained the team that recently toured England in the three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series, while Taniyaa Bhatia and Simran Bahadur have been put on standby. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the six-time champion, India. It will get its campaign underway against Sri Lanka on the opening day before squaring off against arch-rival Pakistan on October 7. The duo was a part of the 17-member squad that toured England. However, they hardly got any game time.

"The All-India Women's Selection Committee has picked India's squad for the upcoming ACC Women's T20 Championship 2022 to be played at Sylhet, Bangladesh from 1st to 15th October," BCCI secretary Jay Shah declared in an official statement. A total of seven teams, hosts Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and United Arab Emirates (UAE), will contend in the round-robin format.

At the same time, the top four sides will make it to the semifinal stage. The semis will be played on October 13, while the title clash will occur on October 15. India lost 1-2 in England but would still be the favourite to enter the final.

India squad for ACC Women's T20 Championship: Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana (vc), Deepti Sharma, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Sabbineni Meghana, Richa Ghosh (wk), Sneh Rana, Dayalan Hemalatha, Meghna Singh, Renuka Thakur, Pooja Vastrakar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Radha Yadav and KP Navgire.
Reserve: Taniyaa Sapna Bhatia and Simran Dil Bahadur.
