Auto majors cash in on festive season as sales zoom

Festive season brought a cheer to the automobile industry as it slowly recovers from an economic slowdown trggered by the coronavirus.

Hero sold 8.06 lakh two-wheelersHero MotoCorp recorded a double-digit jump of 35% in its total two-wheeler sales to 806,848 units in October. The world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer had sold 599,248 units in the corresponding month of the previous year. Motorcycle sales stood at 732,498 units in October 2020 as against 552,672 units in October 2019, registering a growth of 24.5%.

TVS Motor total sales up by 22%TVS Motor Company reported a 22% jump in total sales at 394,724 units in October. The company had sold a total of 3,23,368 units in October last year. TVS Motor Co said last month, total two-wheelers sales grew by 24% at 382,121 units as against 3,08,161 units in the year ago period. Domestic two-wheeler sales increased by 19% at 3,01,380 units as against 2,52,684 units in October 2019, it added.

Hyundai sold over 56,000 carsDomestic sales of Hyundai Motor India saw a growth of 13.2% at 56,605 units in October. In a release, the car maker said that it sold 50,010 units in the domestic market in the same month last year. The company recorded its highest ever monthly domestic sales in October 2020.

Maruti sold more utility vehiclesMaruti Suzuki India reported a 18.9% increase in total sales of utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, increased 9.9% to 25,396 units as compared to 23,108 in the year-ago month. Honda sells more cars in OctoberHonda Cars India Limited reported monthly domestic sales of 10,836 units in October 2020 against 10,010 units in the corresponding month last year, registering a growth of 8.3%. Exports stood at 84 units in the outgoing month.

MG reports highest ever salesMG Motor India reported a 6% increase in October retail sales at 3,750 units. The carmaker sold 3,536 units in the corresponding month last year, MG claimed that it recorded its highest-ever monthly retail sales for the MG Hector at 3,625 units in October 2020, registering a growth of 50% against 2,410 units sold in September 2020.
