The Empire, which is now available on Disney+ Hotstar, has sparked heated debate among jantas and reviewers alike. While some fans praised the programme for being a visual spectacle with its sword battles and huge battle scenes, others dubbed it a "blatant imitation" of Game of Thrones, a show that became a worldwide hit over the years for its grandeur and larger-than-life moments.

The Empire, directed by Mitakshara Kumar, stars Kunal Kapoor as Babur, who will face off against actor Dino Morea as the series' adversary Shaibani Khan. Drashti Dhami makes her digital debut as Khanzada in The Empire. Shabana Azmi, who plays Begum Aisan Daulat, joins them as well.

review: Cheap, crude and classless Game of Thrones wannabe. Dino can't act after all these years, Shabana doesn't do her acting prowess any justice by starring in this.

Switched off after the first episode, Yawn-worthy.

on is a good watch, game of thrones feels are there but then as a nation with such rich history we should have celebrated such stories long back

Started watching on Hotstar, Pretty ambitious in its scale, the set-ups look grand, the costume is especially well done. GOT ko takkar de raha hain. But the surprise package is Powerful.

— Gabbbar (@GabbbarSingh)

ka setup looks better than Game of Thrones ka setup. Pehle 2 episodes toh sahi hai, chalo yeh weekend toh set hai ✌🏻

— Godman Chikna (@Madan_Chikna)

Direction & cinematography will steal your heart in on Hotstar. Depicting the life of Mughal Emperor Babur the series balances between emotions & war. Dino Morea and are impressive wd Drashti Dhami. And guys there is no comparison wd .

Soon after the web series "The Empire" aired on Disney+Hotstar on Friday, people on Twitter created the hashtag #UninstallHotstar to voice their displeasure with the material portrayed in the epic historical action drama. The epic period-action-drama, directed by Mitakshara Kumar and created by national award-winning director Nikkhil Advani, chronicles the narrative of an empire from the valley of Ferghana to Samarkhand and beyond. The web series is based on Alex Rutherford's acclaimed historical novel "Empire of the Moghul: Raiders from the North." Fans have alleged that the creators "glorified the Islamic invader Babur" in the online series.
