People like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Divya Khosla Kumar, Shoojit Sircar and Madhur Bhandarkar have paid their respect to the maverick moviemaker on his 95th birth anniversary.
Ray, considered as one of the finest filmmakers India has ever seen, helmed classics like Pather Panchali, Charulata and Devi.
Satyajit Ray received many major awards in his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards. Ray, who won the an Oscar in 1992, is regarded as one of the most influential directors in world cinema.
He was also honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1992.
Piku director Sircar tweeted, "Today is Ray day. Happy birthday to the Master Satyajit Ray..."
"Happy Birthday to the master of Indian cinema. Satyajit Ray sahab. Respects," wrote Ashoke Pandit.
Bhandarkar posted, "Master film maker and one of the most influential directors in world cinema, Satyajit Ray, was born on May 2, 1921.
