Politicos mourn the loss of evergreen heartthrob Rishi Kapoor

Mumbai: Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who was admitted to Mumbai’s Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Wednesday night, died on Thursday morning. He was 67. Rishi Kapoor was battling cancer since 2018. 

He got treated in the US for a year and had returned to India in September 2019. He was hospitalised after he complained of some breathing problem.

He is survived by wife Neetu Kapoor and children Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and actor Ranbir Kapoor.

Tributes poured in as politicians from across India mourned the loss of evergreen heartthrob Rishi Kapoor. 

This is a terrible week for Indian cinema, with the passing of another legend, actor Rishi Kapoor. A wonderful actor, with a huge fan following across generations, he will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family, friends & fans all over the world, at this time of grief.

Union mminister for information and broadcast, Prakash Javadekar said, “The sudden demise of actor Rishi Kapoor is shocking. He was not only a great actor but a good human being. Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans”.

On September 29, 2018, Rishi had informed his fans that he was leaving for the US to seek medical treatment. He had tweeted, "Hello, all! I am taking a short leave of absence from work to go to America for some medical treatment. I urge my well-wishers not to worry or unnecessarily speculate. It’s been 45 years “plus” of wear and tear at the movies. With your love and good wishes, I will be back soon!"

Later, it was revealed that the actor was diagnosed with cancer and several celebs including Deepika Padukone, Anupam Kher and Shah Rukh Khan met up with him while he was undergoing treatment in the States.
