Relief for Kangana & Rangoli; sisters get interim protection from arrest

Bombay High Court has directed Mumbai Police to not take coercive action against Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel on the FIR until further orders subject.

The bench passed the order on the condition that they appear for recording statement as undertaken.

Kangana and her sister Rangoli will now appear before the Bandra Police on January 8, 2021, between 12PM-2PM.

The court directive came after Kangana and Rangoli challenged the Metropolitan Magistrate order directing the Bandra police to initiate probe into a complaint filed by one Munnawarali Sayyed filed over allegedly hateful tweets by Ranaut.

In their plea, Kangana and Rangoli had contended that "Merely inciting the feelings of one community or group without reference to any other community or group cannot attract the provisions of Section 153A of IPC. A citizen has a right to say or write whatever he likes about the Government by way of criticism or comments so long as it does not incite people to resort to violence. The impugned tweets merely seeks to voice the opinion and the view of the author. It is surely not a call for arms."
