Good News: Jayaraj, Kunal Kapoor's Veeram joins the Oscar race!

Synopsis

Veeram gets an Oscar nomination "We will rise" song will be fighting for Best Original Songs 2017 for the 89th Academy Awards among the 91 songs selected under the category. 

The movie is a big-budget epic, historical drama which is simultaneously being made in Malayalam, Hindi and English with the same title.

 

The song "We will rise," composed by Jeff Rona from the English translation of Veeram, will be fighting for Best Original Songs 2017 for the 89th Academy Awards among the 91 songs selected under the category. 

 

 

Jayaraj announced on his Facebook page, "Humbled by the Happy News. Dedicating the same for all who are with VEERAM ," 

 

However, the final five nominations for the category will be announced next year on January 24.

 

 

The movie, said to be made on a whopping Rs 35 crore, is an adaptation of William Shakespeare's famous play, Macbeth, and is one of the most anticipated Indian films that tells the saga of Chandu Chekavar, who lived during the 13th century in North Malabar. The movie is also the fifth instalment in Jayaraj's Navarasa series.

 

Veeram has Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor in the lead role. Notable Hollywood technicians have worked for the movie. The movie was recently screened at the IFFI, held in Goa and is expected to hit the theatres in January 2017.
