
Bengaluru: Noted film producer and financier in the Kannada film industry, Kapali Mohan, committed suicide at his own hotel in Peenya, Bengaluru, on Monday.
It is reported that Mohan, who is known to yesteryear actor Rajkumar and family, had incurred huge financial losses. He even lost his properties reportedly after bagging a contract to run a hotel at the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus stop in Peenya.
The deceased hoped the passengers plying between Bengaluru and Tumakuru will throng his hotel, but the bus shelter was abandoned for the last 7 years and no buses halted at the shelter.
In the video recorded just before taking the extreme step, he said he has not been able to pay loans for several weeks. He also mentioned that he had requested CM BS Yediyurappa and transport minister Laxman Savadi’s intervention. However, since no help came, he said he driven to end his life.
Mohan’s organisation Bajali Finance Company was once raided by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and Rs 9.33 lakh was seized. He was even arrested by the CCB for gambling. Later, he was also booked under money laundering case as he was accused of charging high rate of interest.
