Bengaluru: Cricketers, fans and others took to social media to wish India head coach Ravi Shastri on his 58th birthday today (May 27). Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, India captain Virat Kohli and other present and former cricketers posted wishes on Twitter.

In 2017, Shastri took over as India’s head coach, replacing Anil Kumble. Since then, he has developed a special bond with Kohli with both having mutual respect for each other.

India, under Shastri’s guidance, reached the pinnacle of ICC Test rankings. They have been doing well in all three formats. However, an ICC trophy has eluded. Also, with Shastri as the coach, India achieved what no other team could in Australia. They won a Test series for the first time ever in 71 years.

The Kohli-led India Test team beat Australia 2-1 in 2019. They are set to travel again Down Under later this year.

Currently, India is under a lockdown due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Recently, Shastri had said IPL and domestic cricket should be given importance when the sport resumes post-COVID-19.
