Remaining IPL 2021 matches to be played in UAE between Sep 15-Oct 15: Reports

The 2021 Indian Premier League has been suspended indefinitely due to numerous COVID bubble breaches. Although the BCCI wonders when to finish the tournament, a window between September-October in UAE has been seemingly confirmed.

The Indian Premier League 2021 became an unfortunate victim of the COVID bubble breach, leading to the tournament getting postponed indefinitely. Although the participating members who were infected have made a swift recovery, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has a headache as to when to finish the tournament.

As of now, the international calendar is crunch, with hardly any proper window available. However, according to The Times of India, BCCI has decided that the tournament remained would be played between September 15 to October 15 in the United Arab Emirates. An announcement regarding the same is likely to be made on May 29.

Currently, India would travel to England for the ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand next month. It would be followed by a five-Test series for the Pataudi Trophy from August 4. Meanwhile, there happens to be a nine-day break between the second and third Test. Consequently, the BCCI is looking to urge England and Wales Cricket Board to reduce the gap so that the window between September-October is increased for the remaining IPL 2021 matches to be adjusted.

Even though BCCI decides against requesting ECB for the same, it would still have a 30-day window to get the job done. However, a longer window would allow the competition to end soon and give the players more breathing space between IPL 2021 and ICC World T20 2021.

Speaking of the WT20, the International Cricket Council meets next month to decide whether it would be held in India or moved to UAE. Although it would keep an eye on IPL 2021 during the phase, it would not interfere unless there are logistical challenges regarding the global competition. However, the report adds that it is likely to stay in India, despite concerns of a third COVID wave in the country, while the nation is currently experiencing the second wave.
