Rahul Dravid cannot vote on April 18 in Bengaluru; here's why

Synopsis

When Rahul Dravid shifted his house from Indiranagar to Ashwathnagar, his name was removed from voters list. But as it was not added again, he can't cast his vote this time, despite being the Karnataka election commission’s icon and ambassador

Bengaluru: Karnataka election commission’s icon and ambassador Rahul Dravid cannot cast his vote in Bengaluru on April 18.

The ambassador whose posters are in the entire state requesting people to cast their vote during the Lok Sabha elections, himself cannot exercise his right this time, because of this silly mistake.

The problem is caused because the batting legend Dravid did not update his details in the voters list after shifting his house from Indiranagar to Ashwathnagar.

Earlier, he was living on 12th Main in Indiranagar, Bengaluru. Then, he was a registered voter in the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency. But he shifted his residence to Ashwathnagar in RMV Extension, and did not apply for an update on the address change in the voters list.

Meanwhile, Dravid's brother Vijay had submitted Form 7 on October 31, 2018, that is meant to delete the name of the residents as the former Indian cricket captain had shifted his house.

But Dravid failed to fill Form 6 that was meant to add his name in the voters list with the location of his new house.

The last date to submit the details and register as a new voter was March 16. But as Dravid was on a foreign tour (he is currently the coach of India ‘A’ and Under-19 cricket team), he came to know about the issue only after March 16.

Reports claimed that booth-level officers visited Dravid's house twice, but were not allowed inside and sent away with a message that they have not been asked to give any such details if his name should be added in the voters list.
