MS Dhoni has taken the first step ahead of the resumption of Indian Premier League 2021. On Tuesday evening, he arrived in Chennai, as the Chennai Super Kings squad is expected to depart for the United Arab Emirates on Friday.
As of now, only a few selected Indian players, including Dhoni, would be travelling to the gulf, Kasi Viswanathan (CSK CEO) was quoted as saying to PTI. He also added that the players would not have any camp in Chennai before departure.
The IPL 2021 would resume from September 19, with CSK taking on defending champion Mumbai Indians on the same day. Currently, CSK is placed second in the table with ten points, having played seven games and winning five, besides losing a couple.
The IPL 2021, originally supposed to run between April and May, was suspended in the opening week of May after multiple breaches in the team bubbles due to COVID. Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to host the remaining matches in the UAE. At the same time, the tournament would also mark as preparations for the ICC World T20 2021, to be played in UAE and Oman from October.
