India vs Sri Lanka 2021: Rahul Dravid could lead Team India amidst Ravi Shastri's unavailability

Synopsis

Rahul Dravid is a legendary former Indian batsman, highly famous for his defensive batting, especially in the longest format and was nicknamed The Wall. He is currently the head coach of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and the U-19 Indian side.

Former Indian legendary batsman Rahul Dravid is doing a fine job as the coach at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and the U-19 Indian side. Meanwhile, he could handle Team India duties for a short time soon.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Dravid is expected to coach Team India during its upcoming Sri Lanka tour in July. Team India's original head coach Ravi Shastri would not be available for the tour as it would be with the senior side in England.

India would be touring Lanka for a three-match One-Day International and Twenty International. However, with India to remain stranded in England for the five-Test series following the conclusion of the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand next month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is likely to send a second-string side to the island nation.

Dravid is familiar with nearly all Indian players likely to be a part of the Lanka tour. The side is expected to be led by senior opener Shikhar Dhawan and could be vice-captained by Hardik Pandya.

The Indian team would arrive in Lanka on July 5 and undergo a week's quarantine. While the ODIs would be played on July 13, 16 and 19, it would be followed by the T20Is on July 22, 24 and 27. All the games to be played in Colombo before India departs on July 28.
