Renault Duster to exit Indian car market

Synopsis

The French car maker intends to come up with a newer version of the Duster in future. However, the company is tight-lipped about when the new Duster will be introduced.

Renault will discontinue the Duster Sports Utility Vehicle in India, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to a report in the Economic Times, the last of the Dusters will roll out of the Chennai facility assembly line in October 2021.

The report suggests that the French carmaker intends to develop a newer version of the Duster in the future. However, the company is tight-lipped about when the new Duster will be introduced.

Duster has been around for nearly a decade but has received upgrades only twice in the period. The European version was given a generational update in 2021.

Renault India MD Venkataram Mamillapalle admitted that there might be a temporary gap but promised that the Duster would be back.

Renault Duster had made a blockbuster entry in India and was widely favoured in the segment. But with newer players emerging and a lack of upgrades, Duster saw a decline both in terms of monthly sales and segment share.
