Modi in US: PM says visit will consolidate ties with strategic partners

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that his five-day visit to the United States will be an occasion to strengthen the comprehensive global strategic partnership with the country, consolidate relations with strategic partners -- Japan and Australia -- and take forward India's collaboration on important global issues.

Ahead of his departure from New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi said that during his visit, he will review the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership with President Joe Biden and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. 

Prime Minister Modi further said that he was looking forward to meeting Vice President Kamala Harris to explore opportunities for cooperation between two nations, particularly in the area of science and technology.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will also participate in the first in-person Quad Leaders' Summit along with President Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. 

The Prime Minister said that the summit will provide an opportunity to take stock of the outcomes of Quad's virtual summit in March this year and identify priorities for future engagements based on a shared vision for the Indo-Pacific region.

Prime Minister Modi said he will conclude his visit with an address at the United Nations General Assembly focusing on the pressing global challenges including the Covid-19 pandemic, the need to combat terrorism, climate change and other important issues.
