Rohit Sharma out: IND announce squad for ENG series

  • BCCI picked the squad for England series today.
  • Ishant Sharma was also included in the 15-member side.

The 15-member squad was announced for the first two Tests against England, starting November 9 at Rajkot. 

 

The BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad said, "He [Rohit] has a bad injury and might have to undergo a surgery."

 

Meanwhile, all-rounder Hardik Pandya who was impressive in the ODI series against New Zealand have received a maiden Test call-up.

 

With Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul still injured, Gautam Gambhir has been included in the squad. The Delhi cricketer, who made his Test comeback after two years, played the final Test between India and New Zealand last month at Indore.

 

He is coming off a superb knock for Delhi scoring 147 in the Ranji Trophy match against Odisha.

 

Dhawan and Rahul were injured during India's home series against New Zealand last month. While Rahul suffered from a hamstring injury, Dhawan broke his finger.

 

The other pacer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also continues to miss out due to an injury, making way for Jayant Yadav. He was selected even in the New Zealand series but failed to make it to the playing XI.

 

Meanwhile, the visiting England squad is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai by Wednesday from Bangladesh after drawing the two-Test rubber against the hosts.
