Law Academy stir: 'Arrest Lakshmi Nair, seize passport'

Amidst reports that Lakshmi Nair, who was 'removed' as the principal of Kerala Law Academy following student protests, might go abroad, youth and student organisations have demanded her arrest and seizure of her passport. 
 

All India Youth Federation, the youth wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI), demanded the government to act immediately and seize the passport of   Nair before she left the country. The police had registered a non-bailable case against Nair under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act for verbally abusing a Dalit student and calling caste. Why the police are hesitant to arrest Nair, the AIYF quipped.
 

After being removed from the post of the Principal of Kerala Law Academy, Nair had stated that she would move out of the country and live with her children abroad. 


Meanwhile, the agitation for the resignation of Lakshmi Nair, along with a slew of other demands, intensified on the 23rd day of protests on Thursday. After the BJP, Congress also started indefinite fast in front of the Kerala Law Academy. Former state Congress chief K Muraleedharan MLA began indefinite fast on Thursday morning. BJP leader V Muraleedharan who has been on a hunger stir for seven days was shifted to hospital on Wednesday after his health deteriorated. BJP state general secretary VV Rajesh started fast in place of Muraleedharan.
