Aero India 2019: 5 aircraft that will make their debut this year

Despite the cloud of gloom that enveloped the city after two Surya Kiran jets crashed mid-air during rehearsals on February 19 killing one pilot, the Aero India 2019 kick started on February 20 showcasing many aircraft. While Surya Kiran team stayed away from the event, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Aero show at Yelahanka air base in Bengaluru. From Airbus 330 Neo to HAL-LUH, many aircraft will be participating for the first time in India.

Bengaluru: Surya Kiran team stayed away from Aero India 2019 in Bengaluru. After its jets crashed mid-air during rehearsals on February 19 killing one pilot. However, many aircraft will be participating for the first time in India.

1. Airbus 330 Neo

It is developed by Airbus as a new version of the A330. It has modern engines with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000. This wide-body jet liner promises 14% better fuel economy per seat.

2. Airbus C-295 Transport Jet

Designed for multi-role operations, it falls in the light and medium segment. It comes with winglets enabling it to travel long distance in multi-weather conditions.

3. NAL-Saras, Regional Transport Aircraft

This is a civilian aircraft designed by the National Aerospace Laboratories. With 14 seats, the revised version has upgraded radar, engine flap actuator, flight control system and more.

4. HAL-HTT-40 Basic Trainer

Built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, this training aircraft comes with a turboprop engine. With a steerable nose wheel, the HTT-40 also has a retractable tricycle landing gear system.

5. HAL-LUH

This is a light helicopter developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Covering a range of up to 500 km and a payload capacity of up to 500 kg, it is built to meet the requirements of both military and civil operators.
