With hundreds of Afghans rushing the tarmac of Kabul's international airport desperate to flee the return of the Taliban, the women stand in oblivion between two worlds.

Though the Taliban have offered a pledge of reconciliation, vowing no revenge against opponents and to respect women's rights in a "different" rule of Afghanistan from two decades ago, the obvious is yet to be out.

Now, amidst all the turmoil in Afghanistan, women in despair and global concern over their fate, an old video of Taliban fighters in Afghanistan bursting into laughter when a journalist questioned them about the right to vote for women politicians has gone viral.

In the video, the journalist can be heard asking the fighters whether the Taliban regime would respect women's rights in Afghanistan. In response, the fighters say that women's rights will be upheld as per Islamic law (Sharia).

When the journalist asked the fighters if the Taliban would accept democratic governance and allow people to vote in female politicians, they laughed off the question.

“It made me laugh,” one of the fighters can be heard saying in the video, before asking the camera to stop filming.

The video is part of Vice News's special documentaries from Taliban territory.

The Taliban took over Afghanistan completely on August 15 with the insurgents entering Kabul. In their first address to the press, the Taliban leadership on Tuesday clarified that the Taliban have changed in the last 20 years. Though their ideologies remain the same, the group has now matured and do not want any rivalry and revenge.

The plight of the women can already be seen through some actions across the streets of Kabul. One such example is that of a shop decorated with beautiful pictures of girls, whitewashed overnight.
