Karnataka is on the boil, not only because of the rising temperature, but also because of the all-important state assembly elections. Other than the usual Congress, BJP and JD(S), parties like AAP, KPJP, actor Upendra's Prajakeeya, Nowhera Shaik's All India Mahila Empowerment Party and several other parties have decided to contest for some or all of the 224 seats.
While for some, it may be to serve the people, for a few others, it is revenge.
Former Excise Minister HY Meti was in the eye of storm a year ago owing to a sex scandal and a rape case filed against him. The Congress minister had to resign after the opposition and the police came down hard on him. And now the woman involved in the sex scandal, Vijayalaxmi Sarur, has decided to contest against HY Meti in Bagalkot district. She will be contesting as an independent candidate against a man who she accused of intimidation, harassment and kidnapping her. Vijayalaxmi had earlier tried to end her life as she received threats to her life from the supporters of Meti.
"I do not have money, nor am I very influential. However, what I have is a belief that the people want someone who will truly work for them. And hence I have jumped into the fray," Vijayalaxmi told the media.
Bigg Boss contestant and minister Renukacharya’s muse who shot to fame after releasing the photos of her lip-lock with the former minister and BJP leader, has joined All India Mahila Empowerment Party. She said she will contest from Chamrarajpet or against Renukacharya at his constituency Honnali in Davanagere district. She hailed Nowhera Shaik's contribution to the country. "Politics has stooped to a new low. It is only people like Nowhera Shaik who can cleanse the system," she said.
Nurse Jayalakshmi, who has had a long-standing battle with former minister Renukacharya over alleged sexual harassment, had attempted suicide twice after the incident.
Elsewhere, Premakumari, who had kicked-up a controversy claiming that former Minister S.A. Ramdas had secretly married her, has announced that she would contest the ensuing Assembly Polls against the BJP leader. Premakumari said that she would fight against Ramdas from whichever Assembly constituency the former Minister contested. Premakumari was a second division clerk at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Tumakuru when she claimed to be in an alleged relationship with Ramdas. She also stated that they had secretly tied the knot at her residence and demanded the former Minister to marry her again in public. Ramdas had claimed that she was mentally unsound and that she had approached him with a transfer request.
So this time you'll not only get to see Siddaramaiah, BS Yeddyurappa and HD Kumaraswamy battle it out for the coveted Chief Minister's seat, but also former paramours of ministers who are out for revenge.
