Facebook to hire 10,000 people in EU to build 'metaverse'

Facebook on Monday (October 18) announced 10,000 European Union jobs to build the 'metaverse', a virtual reality version of the Internet.

The tech giant's CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been a strong advocate of the metaverse, which is believed to be the future where the line between the physical and digital world is blurred.

In a blog post, Facebook made the announcement that said 10,000 new high skilled jobs will be created within the European Union over the next 5 years.

The post added, "The metaverse has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social, and economic opportunities. And Europeans will be shaping it right from the start.
