Exclusive: 'For us, this Olympic Bronze medal is like Gold'

Among those instrumental in ensuring that India achieved the 41-year-old dream of an Olympic hockey medal was PR Sreejesh. Asianet News joined the celebrations at his home in Kerala.

It's a story of grit, perseverance and performance that Team India win the men's hockey Bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Among those instrumental in ensuring that India achieved the 41-year-old dream of an Olympic hockey medal was PR Sreejesh.

The Team India goalkeeper was in sublime form throughout the tournament, thwarting attack after attack from rival teams.

After the Bronze medal-winning effort against Germany, Sreejesh said he had not known how it felt to win a bronze medal.

"It's a wonderful feeling. I guess I must go back to my home to feel what really happened. I called my father (after the match) because he was instrumental in me reaching where here. I wanted to tell him immediately that I have achieved this. The credit of this medal goes to my father," he said.

Asianet News, too, reached out to the family of the PR Sreejesh. The family said that the bronze medal was equivalent to a gold medal for them.
