Bengaluru: Karnataka is the land of social reformers like Basavanna and others. But the same land is also witness to the scourge of caste system.

In what comes as shocking and shameful, Chitradurga MP A Narayanaswamy, a Dalit, was stopped from entering a village Pemmanahalli near Pavagada.

As the villagers did not allow him to enter the village because of his caste, the police officers accompanying him and his assistants stood humiliated. Even after hours of trying to strike truce, the villagers didn’t relent.

The MP returned empty-handed. He was there in relation to a project to make the village slum-free.

If this is what an elected representative has to face, just spare a thought for the common man!
