Ballari: It was one of the worst mornings that Ballari city MLA Somashekhara Reddy woke up to.

All thanks to the problematic underground drainage system (UGD), water gushed on to the premises of his house (and others), forcing them to sit on benches, in the city of Ballari, Karnataka.

Enraged at the frequency of the problems and the callous attitude exhibited by the palike, he summoned its commissioner Tusharamani and took her to task.

Immediately, the commissioner ordered that the premises be cleaned up. So a vehicle to suck water was driven to the place.

The UGD was built in 1978. Since then, it is alleged that no upgradation work has taken place.
