Visakhapatnam: 2 dead after gas leak in pharmaceutical unit

Visakhapatnam: At least two people were killed and four were hospitalised after gas leaked last night (June 29) at a pharmaceutical unit in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam. The leakage of benzimidazole gas was reported from Sainor Life Sciences Private Limited in Visakhapatnam and as a precautionary measure, the factory was immediately shut down. The deceased were identified as Gowri Shankar and Narendra. As per reports, 23 personnel were on shift when the incident took place.

Police commissioner RK Meena, and district collector Vinay Chand visited the spot and assured that there was nothing to worry.

“The situation is under control now. Two persons who died were workers and were present at the leakage site (at the time of the incident). Gas has not spread anywhere else,” said senior police officer Uday Kumar. Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has sought information about the incident, his office said.
