Muslim ordained with Linga deeksha, joins CM Yediyurappa's Lingayat community

A man in Gadag district, which is Lingayat hotbed, chose to change his religion and walk on the principles of Lingayat leader Basavanna. Dewan Sharief was ordained with Linga Deeksha and heads a mutt at Ron Taluk. He says he wants to foster peace between Hindus and Muslims

At times of distress and hatred between communities, a 32-year-old Muslim man from Gadag received Linga Deeksha, a baptism process to become a member of the Lingayat community to which CM BS Yediyurappa belongs. Dewan Sharief Mullah, who was ordained with deeksha, said he wants work for world peace and prosperity.

Dewan Sharief Mullah says, his parents, Rahim and Fathima are followers of Murugharajendra Korneshwar Swamiji and have also given two acres of land to build a mutt, with the objective of taking Lingayat founder Basavanna's principles to great heights. Inspired by their parents' gesture, Mullah who was earlier known as Munna asked swami to bless him and take him as his disciple.

According to locals, the Mullah thinks god is one and but has many forms. Instead of fighting based on religious differences and faith, people should unite and work for peace, he believes.

After receiving deeksha, Mullah, whose parents have given two acres of land to build a mutt and propagate Basavanna's philosophies, will head the mutt. His guru who accepted him as his disciple says there is no disparity with people who come to receive deeksha.

Murugharajendra Korneshwar who blessed Dewan Sharief Mullah says, the linga at the land has been placed and everything went on peacefully.
