Mangaluru electricity supply company faces public wrath after increasing rates

Officers at Mangaluru Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) in Karnataka were in trouble as the public gheraoed the place after receiving bills with increased rates

Mangaluru residents were in for a rude shock as they received the bill with increased rates.

Hundreds of them gheraoed the Mangaluru Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) in Karnataka. And in the process, they forgot to maintain social distancing norms amidst coronavirus scare.

The incident happened on Tuesday at Chembu Gugge MESCOM office. The public took the MESCOM employees to task claiming that they showed least respect to aggrieved residents.

The residents said that the normal bill is around Rs 800 per month, but this time the bill was around Rs 2,000. They questioned a particular clause in the bill that says 'other services', but none in the office had the courtesy to answer.

Some residents alleged that few officers asked them to talk to the government instead of complaining here.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said, "An officer said the government has no money and to put the system back in shape, these measures of increasing fares on power billl have been taken. And they expect the public to co-operate."
