Kerala leader makes sexist comment, asks Muslim women to stay away from CAA protests

Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar, All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary, courted controversy and said that  women should stay away from public protests against CAA in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar made a controversial statement claiming that women should stay away from public protests against CAA in Kerala. He added that women should not stage protests or raise slogans as men do.

“Women should not shout slogans, raise clenched hands and get on the streets to protest like men. But if the situation arises, then they may extend support (against the CAA). They can come forward and do so at that time. Otherwise, they need not come to the fore,” Aboobacker said.

After this statement, several women activists have now reacted to his sexist comments against women's participation in anti-CAA agitations. Kerala's Women Commission chairperson MC Josephine also condemned the statement of Aboobacker.
